The new BMW M4 GT4 has successfully completed its first round of tests at the Almeria circuit in Spain. The latest iteration of the famous race car showed great promise during its test run, putting BMW in an excellent position ahead of the starting competition in 2023.
Thomas Felbermair, Vice President of Sales and Marketing BMW M GmbH, is proud of the new BMW M4 GT4, saying they are "writing the next chapter in a major success story." Felbermair brought up the winning tradition of the BMW M4 GT4, adding, "the current model has shaken up the booming GT4 class in recent years, and has celebrated many titles and victories all over the world."
Felbermair and the rest of the BMW team wanted to retain the strengths of the current M4 GT4 and add some improvements for the newest model. Felbermair believes they have just done that with the new BMW M4 GT4, with the top executive expecting BMW M Motorsport teams and its drivers to have a tremendous amount of fun with this particular model.
GT4 model and BMW M4 production car largely similar
The latest GT4 model is largely similar to the BMW M4 production car. The transmission, electronics, and engine of the GT4 come from the road-going M4. The new BMW M4 GT4 also incorporated its predecessor's carbon-fiber roof and rear wing design.

Initial computer simulations regarding the newest M4 GT4 transpired in September 2020. BMW then began developing the race car at the start of 2021, assembling its first test vehicle since the summer. BMW developed the car's chassis at its Group Plant in Dingolfing, Germany, with the M4 GT4 concluding its first round of tests in October 2021.
BMW's main target when designing the M4 GT4 is to ease the vehicle's operational and maintenance costs to help its private BMW M Motorsport teams. The German automaker believes it has set new benchmarks with the latest race car, with developers emphasizing cooling and optimizing multi-level traction control. BMW decided to use sustainable materials like natural fibers instead of carbon and plastic components in designing some parts of the M4 GT4.

BMW M4 GT4 showing great promise in early testing
It is still early days for the new BMW M4 GT4, but test driver Jens Klingmann already likes what he sees with the 2023 race car. Klingmann said, "Although we are still in a very early phase of testing, there are already areas in which we have achieved progress compared to the current BMW M4 GT4." Klingmann mentioned the ease of operation, seat ergonomics, and many additional functions as the main difference between the new car and its predecessor.
The M4 GT4 will be tested on the race track next year, with Porsche just launching the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, a car that races in the same class. That is a challenge BMW will love to take, with Felbermair saying, "The hunt for more trophies in the GT4 segment starts in 2023."
