Ga. Ambulance Crash: 2 EMTs, Patient Killed After Semitrailer Collision on Georgia Highway (PHOTOS/ VIDEO)

An ambulance with its lights and sirens on crashed into a semitrailer on a Georgia highway today, June 6, killing the two medics and the patient on board, authorities have confirmed.

The Georgia State Patrol said in a news release that the crash happened at approximately 5:00 a.m. on state Highway 32, near the small town of Ocilla in south Georgia according to the Associated Press.

Authorities have said the Coffee County ambulance was driving east with its lights and siren on when the westbound semitrailer "jack-knifed" through the centerline and into the path of the ambulance.

The ambulance was hit on the left side of the semi according to the Associated Press.

The State Patrol confirmed that the patient name was Charles Arvin Smith, 65, of Tifton later on in the day.

The patient in the back of the ambulance was reportedly "thrown" from the vehicle due to the impact according to ems1.com.

Emergency medical technicians were identified as Teresa Ann Davis, 44, of Axson, who was driving the ambulance, and Randall Whiddon, 56, of Ashburn, who was riding in the front passenger seat according to the State Patrol press statement.

It was not immediately clear if weather was a factor in the crash as of press time. Thunderstorms could be heard at the same time the crash occurred according to local witnesses.

The State Patrol identified the semi driver as Rockwell Lott of Tifton.

The crash scene is about 180 miles south of Atlanta. An investigation at the scene of the incident is now under way according to authorities.
