Electric Car Salesman Pays $32,000 for Two Minutes with President Obama

A Los Angeles car salesman is spending $32,400 of his retirement savings to talk to President Barack Obama at a "private" Democratic fundraiser this week.

Paul Scott, 60, is a $50,000-a-year Nissan salesman who wants to plead his case to the Obama administration about how to better support electric cars according to USA Today.

Scott was told he will be given between two to four minutes with Obama, but wanted to make sure he would be speaking with the president directly before handing over a check.

"I am not going to sit quietly," said Scott, a Nissan salesman who is also co-founder of the electric-vehicle advocacy group Plug In America. "I am not going to hope that I get to talk."

The fundraiser currently has multiple options available to the public: for $10,000 you can be a luncheon guest, for $16,200 you can be a VIP luncheon guest and have your picture taken with Obama, and for $32,400 you can have your picture taken with the President, and take part in a one-hour roundtable discussion with him after the luncheon.

Obama will take questions in private, off-the-record according to USA Today. The most expensive option is limited to 25 people and is expected to sell out "fast."

Scott is already carefully figuring out what he wants to say to Obama. One of the points he believes that the Obama administration needs to push for is a "carbon tax" that would reportedly raise prices on oil-based fuels, making electric vehicles seem like a more reasonable option.

Scott realizes that spending over a half a year's pay for one hour with Obama will set him back, but at the same time he won't "starve to death" and feels the conversation will be worth every penny.

"I figured what the hell, I'll go tell him to his face," said Scott after considering cheaper options to reach Obama.
