Tesla Motors announced this week that its expanding a network of fast-charging stations in key locations around the country to make coast-to-coast driving easier than ever before.

The car company has tripled its market value this year and is also tripling the number of solar-powered supercharger stations in the U.S. so that owners of the Model S can go from New York to Los Angeles according to Elon Musk, the company's co-founder and chief executive officer.

Currently, Tesla owners are limited due to an estimated 265-mile range of battery charge according to Musk. The company is working on making more charging stations available to draw in more people and to make it easier on its current customers.

"Traditional charging has been way too slow and it's not effective for long-distance travel," Musk said in an onstage interview at the D: All Things Digital conference in California according to Bloomberg Businessweek. "When people buy a car they're also acquiring a sense of freedom."

Currently nine charging stations are located on highways in North America to allow Model S owners to recharged, but Musk said this week he wants 100 available in the U.S. and Canada by 2015.

The company gained 7.9 percent to $104.72 this week, and increased to as much as 8.6 percent to $105.40.

Earlier this month the company repaid a $426 million U.S. loan they took out in 2009. Tesla repaid the loan nine years before it was due, becoming the first company that received a U.S. Energy Department loan to pay off its debt.
