Patent images for the brand new BMW X2 have surfaced on the web. It appears that the final design will be much different from the original concept previously introduced.
The images were allegedly leaked from the Japanese Patent Office (JPO). The renders gave a first preview of the all-new compact SUV, which is expected to go on sale next year.
Looking at the leaked images, it appears that the production BMW X2 will come out with some revisions on the design of the original concept. The automaker has introduced the X2 Concept at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
In terms of the front fascia, the new X2 looks less tough than the original concept. The front bumper has been changed and the headlamps became larger.
Based on the leaked renders, the new model will keep the same shape but with additional elements. The sleek headlights and flared grilles look more toned in the production car.
Another notable revision is the design of the side mirrors. The concept sports a very thin pair of mirrors. Whereas, the car in the patent image has the conventional design of side mirrors.
Furthermore, several changes can also be spotted on the rear section. The concept comes with two exhausts and large, bulky bash plate. However, the leaked photos show a revised design, showing only a single exhaust and a smaller skid plate. In addition, BMW seems to have altered the taillight design too.
With regard to similarities of the X2 concept with the patent image, the new small SUV will have almost exactly the same original design on the side of the car. The badge on the C-pillar can still be spotted on the leaked renders, as well as the original window openings. Regular door handles can also be seen on the production car photo.
The all-new BMW X2 is expected to make its grand debut by the end of the year. Speculations say the new compact SUV will come out with a $38,800 (£30,000) price tag.
