The Volkswagen of America Foundation, which was created by Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., announced today that it will make an immediate donation of $250,000 to the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity to help with the disaster relief efforts as a result of the tornadoes in Oklahoma.

The donation will help cover costs of food, recovery, shelter and any other assistance to families suffering from the tornadoes according to a Volkswagen press release.

"Given the severity of the disaster in Oklahoma, the Volkswagen of America Foundation has decided to provide resources to the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity, who can then allocate the resources where needed," said Jonathan Browning, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America.

Volkswagen formally expressed their thoughts and concerns for all those who have been affected, including local dealers, employees and their families.

The company also said this week that they'll match funds that any employee donates to the Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, and other organizations according to a company press release.

The Volkswagen of America Foundation was created by the Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. to give out grants to organizations that "provide disaster relief."

"It is our hope that this donation will provide some relief to those affected and help them rebuild their communities and their lives," said Browning.
