Barbara Walters' daughter Jacqueline Danforth was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Naples, Florida, Sunday.
Danforth, 44, and a male passenger were pulled over by police at approximately 1:30 a.m. on May 19 according to TMZ.
After police handcuffed the passenger, Danforth was "taken to the ground" by officers who thought she might try to run into oncoming traffic.
"I was afraid that the suspect may run into traffic on the highway, so she was taken to the ground due to her unpredictable behavior, then secured in handcuffs," the arresting officer wrote in the police report.
Danforth was released after posting her $1,000 bond according to the Inquisitr.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office said that this was Danforth's first infraction as an adult, but would not specific whether the arrest was for drugs or alcohol.
Walters discussed Danforth's struggles with drugs in her 2008 autobiography "Audition: A Memoir" and spoke at length about it in multiple TV interviews advertising the book.
The famous TV journalist adopted Danforth in 1968 with then-husband Lee Gruber according to the Huffington Post.
Danforth abused marijuana and meth during her teenage years and even ran away from home.
After spending three years in an intervention program, Danforth graduated from high school and shortly after receiving her degree Gruber passed away.
Danforth opened an alternative school to help troubled teens called New Horizons for Young Women, which was held in Maine before being shut down in 2008 according to the Huffington Post.
Walters has yet to comment on the arrest.
