Subaru announced this week that they're recalling certain 2013 model year Legacy sedans and Outback wagons for a issue with the steering wheel that could cause drivers to lose complete control over their vehicle.
A report by the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) was posted earlier today, May 20, that says the recall affects approximately 5,379 vehicles.
The vehicles were built from February 15, 2012 through June 15, 2012 according to the NHTSA's report.
The issue was found in the steering column assembly, which contains splined inner and outer shafts that are supposed to be a tight press fit according to Subaru.

The company realized during yard operations that the press fit was not capable of maintaining contact between the inner and outer shafts, an issue that could cause the shafts to become disengaged.
If the shafts become disengaged, the NHTSA said the driver would then lose control of the steering wheel, increasing the chance of a crash.
The company has received two customer complaints regarding the issue back in February and April of this year. The NHTSA decided on May 8 that a recall would be necessary to fix the issues.
Subaru will begin notifying all owners and dealerships that the steering column assembly needs to be replaced with a new one. All work will be done free of charge.
The recall campaign, identified as WQI-45, started on May 14 according to Subaru.
