A Steak 'n Shake waitress was paid a $446 tip this week by a frequent customer for a check that only cost $6 according to Yahoo.
CeCe Bruce, a part-time student at Martin University in Indianapolis, has worked as a waitress at the Steak 'n Shake restaurant for the past two years. While she has received some very "generous" tips during her time there, nothing had prepared her for what she experienced this week.
When Bruce first picked up Miss Jo's receipt on May 15, she thought the tip read $46 first which would have been huge in itself considering the bill was just $5.97. When she looked at it again however and saw it said $446, her jaw dropped according to WTHR.
"When I looked again, I said 'Oh my gosh, Miss Jo, I'm not taking that!' And she said, 'Yes, you're taking it,' Bruce told WTHR.
Miss Jo had even asked her waitress if she was allowed to leave a large tip, but even Bruce didn't expect the number to be well over $400.
"She didn't even give me time to tell her, 'Thank you,' or anything," Bruce said. "When I went back to get my manager, she took off out the door. I went outside and she said, 'You're going to take that money,' and drove off."
Bruce's manager Greer Gooley said that his waitress deserves every dollar for her loyalty to the company throughout the years.
"She stays late, comes in early. Whenever we need her, she's here. So she deserves it more than anyone," Gooley told local station WISH. "It just lets servers know that you work hard and it does pay off. There are people out there that [if] you do your job people reward you for it."
Since her story has made headline news, other people have stopped by the restaurant to help out Bruce as well. She received a $14 tip on a small order on May 17 and multiple people have reached out to her to help her pay for school according to ABC News.
"Good things have been happening,'' Bruce said according to ABC News.
