Mercedes-Benz introduced their new 2014 S-Class model at a media presentation in Hamburg, Germany way ahead of their planned U.S. market introduction in September.
The company claims the new model will be among the most "sophisticated" road vehicles ever placed into production according to Edmunds. The new model was developed under the code name W222.
New features that interested customers can expect include
When the model reaches the U.S. later on in the year it will include an advanced camera-assisted chassis. The new feature is capable of scanning the road surface and altering the suspension setting to suit weather or conditions.
Three different wheelbase options will be offered, including an extra-long wheelbase that will replace the discontinued Maybach 57 and 62 limos according to Mercedes-Benz.
Length has increased to 206.5 inches, the width is now 74.8 inches, and it's approximately 58.9 inches high in long-wheelbase form.
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed a single engine for the S-Class's September U.S. sales launch: am updated version of the twin-turbocharged 4.7-liter V8 direct-injection gasoline engine according to the company. The engine produces 449 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque in the S500.
The claimed 0-62-mph time has decreased from 5.4 seconds to 4.8 seconds, while the vehicle's top speed is still approximately 155 mph. Three additional engines will be offered in other markets around the globe.
The S500 will be delivered in rear-wheel-drive form only at first, but Mercedes-Benz has already revealed that a four-wheel-drive S500 4Matic model will be added to the U.S. lineup by this November according to Edmunds.
