Southern California authorities said a man is still in critical condition after he was almost beaten to death by a group of teenage skateboarders.
The man suffered life-threatening head injuries on May 10 and four teenagers could face attempted murder chargers. All four are on probation for previous crimes according to Hunting Beach police Lt. Mitchell O'Brien.
O'Brien said the man's girlfriend intervened when a fight between two groups broke out at a nearby skate park.
The teenagers then turned their attention to the woman, who was able to get away but came back with her boyfriend. The man attempted to stop them from hurting his girlfriend and from fighting again, but instead he was chased into a nearby laundromat.
The group "savagely" beat him with skateboards according to the Associated Press.
"I was so scared. So I locked the door. They used their skateboards to beat the boy in the head," said Sandy Nguyen, who works at a nail salon two doors down from the laundromat according to CBS News.
Seven teenagers under the age of 18 were detained, and four of them were arrested for investigation of attempted murder. The four were booked at Juvenile Hall, where they remain as of press time.
The names of the four suspects have not been released.
A father of a 15-year-old involved in the incident said his son and the other boys are "innocent" as they were just trying to defend themselves according to KTLA.
The boy's father claims that the man who tried stopping the fight came at them with a screwdriver and attempted to stab more than one of the teenagers before they chased him into the laundromat .
Police are planning on reviewing surveillance cameras at the Laundromat and will release more information regarding the incident after doing so.
