The 15th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition with the tagline "Innovation for Better Life" was reportedly "a success" according to the show's organizers.

Auto Shanghai 2013 brought out 2,000 Chinese and foreign exhibitors from over 18 countries and regions worldwide. Over 1,300 vehicles were on display at the event, including 69 concept cars and 91 new energy vehicles.

Approximately 111 new models had their world premiere at the event.

In addition to the 813,000 visitors that attended the show, 10,493 journalists from 2,718 domestic and foreign news media organizations reported live from the event.

Ford had a number of new models revealed at the event including the new Escort Concept, the all-new Fiesta and Fiesta ST, the Explorer, EcoSport, and Kunga SUVs.

"By listening to our customers in China, we have developed the Ford Escort Concept to serve a new class of compact car customers," said Jim Farley, executive vice president for global marketing, sales and service and Lincoln, in the company release. "These are customers whose needs are not being completely met by existing compact cars."

The Buick Riviera Concept and Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept were also revealed for the first time at the event.

Many fatalities and injuries were caused on account of a 7.0-magnitude earthquake which struck Ya-an City, Sichuan Province on April 20. The organizers of Auto Shanghai 2013 decided to donate 1 million yen, or approximately $160,000 after adjusted inflation, to the earthquake relief efforts.

At the event, automakers significantly "enriched" visitors' experience through 3D videos, model demonstrations, simulation runs, interactive experiences and even actual operation of a vehicle, among other display methods that allowed people to get the real life and experience of what some of the new vehicle's will be like once released.

"The successful conclusion of Auto Shanghai 2013 created an excellent platform for exchange and cooperation between global carmakers, drawing wide attention from the automobile industry and from every community across China," said the Auto Shanghai 2013's press release.
