X Games veteran Travis Pastrana won his first career Nationwide Series pole on May 3 at Talladega Superspeedway.

The 10-time X Games gold medalist, driving for Roush Fenway Racing in his first full-time season, built on his solid practice performance a day earlier in which he posted the third-fastest time of the day.

The driver qualified for the Aaron 312 race with a fast lap of 176.500 mph on the 2.66-mile tri-oval according to the Associated Press.

Pastrana called the pole win "a dream come true," and his now hoping the weather remains clear for the race since rain is expected.

''It's definitely a huge accomplishment to be able to just start here at Talladega,'' Pastrana said. ''To lead them to the green (flag) is something I'll always be able to say that I've done - assuming we don't get rained out here.''

Pastrana qualified fourth and finished 10th at Daytona Superspeedway earlier this year.

The pole win will give Pastrana his second top-10 start in just 17 Nationwide races. The win also represents the first Nationwide pole victory for owner Jack Roush.

''Any time Jack's smiling,'' Pastrana said, ''I'm smiling.''

Fellow drivers Austin Dillon will start second, followed by Trevor Bayne, Danica Patrick and Justin Allgaier according to the Associated Press.

John Wes Townley qualified 10th, but his No. 25 Toyota was ruled to be "too low" in qualifying and his time was disallowed. As a result, Tim Andrews, who did not qualify originally, is not in the 40-car field.

The 312 is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN.
