A more hardcore Ferrari 488 will be wearing the "GTO" badge when it is launched next year. It will have extra power with an anticipated 700bhp and is set to rival the upcoming Porsche 911 GT2.
It seems Ferrari is reviving the "GTO" badge that was last used for the 599 GTO back in 2010. The "O" stands for "Omologato," which is Italian for "Homologated."
The upcoming hardcore Ferrari 488 GTO, not its official name, will still be equipped with the Ferrari 488 GTB's 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. But for improved performance, this will be booted with increased pressure and some internal modifications so that it could deliver an anticipated 700 horses, 40 horses up from the current 660 rating. Also, the standard 561 lb-ft of torque will be substantially increased as well.
In addition, the automaker will remove unessential parts in the car's interior and will fit lightweight materials like lighter ceramic brakes and forged wheels and thinner glass for the side windows and windscreen. This could drop the vehicle's dry weight to just below 3,000 lbs.
A new software will be installed on the upcoming hardcore Ferrari 488 GTO for its Side Slip Angle Control. Aerodynamics will also be upgraded.
Autocar speculates that the Ferrari 488 GTO will have around a 2.7-second 0 to 62mph sprint while a 7.5-second 124mph. These are pretty strong numbers, but we will see once the hardcore supercar is launched.
The hardcore Ferrari 488 GTO is set to replace the discontinued 458 Speciale. This was the widely regarded best track-focused Ferrari, to date. In fact, the 488 GTO will be built on the platform of the 488 although with extra power, more focused chassis, and lightened structure, as mentioned above.

Pricing for the 488 GTO could be higher than the 488 GTB thanks to its hardcore nature and a limited number of production models. The entry level of around $276,490.00 or £215,000 could be a possibility.
