The Chevrolet Corvette has a long history at the Indianapolis 500 that goes back to the late 1970's. Since then Corvette leads all vehicles with over 11 appearances as the pacesetter for the race.

If the latest rumors are true, it seems the company is preparing for one more go around.

According to a report by Road and Track, Chevrolet is testing the Stingray to be used as the pace car for the 2013 Indy 500.

Photos have leaked to the internet of a Stingray being tested with a camouflaged cover, possibly to hide the official pace car logo on the rock panels.

The C7 model essentially maintains the basic exterior appearance shown months ago by Chevrolet, the front and rear-mounted safety lights reveal a lot about the company's intentions.

The vehicle's rear-window-mounted interior lightbar could replace the standard roof-mounted pace car safety light setup, which would allow the model to keep its aggressive style.

Its front LED headlight clusters can also seen in the leaked photos as well as the flashers the company installed in the Stingray's grille according to Road and Track.

The photos were taken at the General Motors testing facility in Milford, Michagan according to Road and Track.

So while nothing has been confirmed by the company, all signs seem to indicate the Stingray will make an appearance at the famous race.

The Indy 500 is scheduled to take place on May 26.
