The refreshed and facelifted brand new 2018 Subaru Outback just made its debut at the 2017 New York Auto Show. While not really all new, the new Outback gets a more aggressive look, much-improved ride and handling, and a few new standard and optional equipment.

Today, the new Outback has the most interior room in an expanding segment of sport-utility wagons. It has a total passenger volume of 108.1 cubic feet plus 35.5 cubic feet of space behind the back seats and 73.3 cubic feet with the standard 60/40-split fold-down rear seatback folded. The load floor is flat, and the cargo area has a more convenient rear seatback release levers.

There haven't been many changes made to the overall body of the new 2018 Subaru Outback. However, its front and rear fascias have been updated to fall in line with the rest of the brand's lineup. The LED headlights are offered with a feature that points them in the direction of the vehicle's steering wheel. Touring and Limited models will come with automatic high beams thanks to Subaru's EyeSight safety suite.

On the inside, the 6.2-inch infotainment screen has been replaced by a slightly bigger 6.2-inch setup. At an extra cost, Subaru is offering a larger 8-inch system with TomTom navigation with three years' worth of free upgrades. In addition, an upmarket steering wheel has also been added, together with a more efficient air conditioning system and steering responsive LED headlights.

Named as the world's first sports utility wagon, the newest Outback will be on sale this summer in the U.S. with a 2.5-liter and 3.6-liter powertrains. The 2.5-liter engine produces 175 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque while the 3.6-liter engine is rated at 256 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. Both engines will have a continuously variable transmission sending power to the car's proprietary AWD system with torque vectoring capabilities.

There are no details yet about the new Outback's price. But expect it to be going around $25,645 similar to the current 2017MY price. The updated 2018 Subaru Outback will go on sale later this year.
