Consumer Reports rated the Porsche Boxster recently and found that the new convertible is the perfect blend of new features, fun-to-drive character, and a "striking" style.
"The Boxster might not feel as brawny as a Corvette from a standstill, but acceleration builds quickly, and it's smooth," said Jake Fisher, director, Consumer Reports Auto Test Center according to a company press release.
Consumer Reports engineers rated the Porsche Boxster, Audi TT, Mercedes-Benz SLK, and BMW Z4 recently and while each model performed well, the Boxster finished eight points ahead of the SLK according to a company press release.
The full report and road test results for all four models are available now on Consumer Reports website and will appear in the June issue of the company's magazine, on newsstands May 7.
The new Boxster reportedly delivers the "purest" sports-car experience of the four CR models tested. Engineers determined the new Porsche is quick and agile, has "superb" braking, and "telepathic" turn-in response.
It seemed engineers liked the Boxsters interior almost as much as the model's performance. The convertible's top operates simply through the press of a button and can be raised or lowered while going up to 31 mph.
Engineers did like many things about the other vehicles as well however, even calling the TT convertible, which is one of the few available with all-wheel-drive, fun-to-drive and "nimble" according to the company press release. The vehicle handles like a sports car, but is less engaging than the Boxster according to test results.
Consumer Reports also indicated that the Z4 performs rather well, and accelerates faster than most of its competitors. The model garners better fuel economy than the Boxster, TT, and SLK with an impressive 28 mpg overall from its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The vehicle's retractable hard-top is slow, but keeps the cabin quiet. CR's engineers found the Z4 isn't as fun to drive as the others however according to the company release..
Using over 50 labs, auto test centers, and survey research center Consumer Reports rates thousands of products and services yearly. Since 1936, Consumer Reports has over 8 million subscribers to its magazine, website, and other publications.
