This Earth Day, Kidney Cars is urging car owners to donate their old vehicles in an effort designed to help better the environment and those waiting for a kidney transplant.
Those who donate to the cause become eligible for a tax deduction, while also helping the National Kidney Foundation's educational and prevention programs.
The cause provides a simple way that Americans can recycle and reuse on Earth Day, while also reminding car owners of the dangers of driving a vehicle that is old or bad for the environment. All donated vehicles will either be sold at auction or for parts.
"Let your used vehicle join the thousands of others that have gone green for a good cause. A sputtering vehicle may actually revive the health of thousands suffering from kidney disease while helping save the planet at the same time," said Bruce Skyer, National Kidney Foundation CEO in the press release.
In order to donate your car you must: have the vehicle identification number, hold a clear title to the vehicle, know the model, make, approximate mileage number and condition of the user car.
The vehicle identification number is a 17-digit number that can be found either on your registration, your title, or your insurance policy. It can also be found on your car near the base of the windshield.
Since the car donation program started back in 1983, Kidney Cars has raised over $250 million to help "countless" people around the world.

Approximately 90,000 people are currently waiting all-around the country for a kidney transplant, something your car donation can help with.
All donations can be made by simply calling 1-800-488-CARS (2277) or visiting kidneycars.org.
The National Kidney Foundation is the "leading organization in the U.S. dedicated to the awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease" for millions of people around the U.S.
