"We received a fantastic response to our Volvo C30 and S60 Polestar concept cars, so we are very happy to now introduce our first production car to the Australian market," said Dahl according to the company press release. "This is an important step forward for Polestar, one that promises an exciting future."
A limited production run was developed just for the Australian market and the first vehicles will be sent to customers by June 2013. The company is looking into releasing the Polestar to other markets.
Polestar has stated on multiple occasions that their decision on whether or not to release the model in other countries will depend largely on how well the S60 sells in Australia.
"The Australian market for performance cars is, and has always been, strong," says Matt Braid, Managing Director of Volvo Cars Australia. "We are delighted to be able to offer our customers the
Volvo S60 Polestar, a car more than capable of getting into the thick of the action in this competitive segment of the market.
The six-cylinder turbo-charged Volvo T6 engine has been constructed by Polestar with a larger turbo, new intercooler system, and racing exhaust to produce 350bhp according to the company press release.
The S60 Polestar accelerates from 0 to 60 in 4.9 seconds thanks to a Polestar-tuned six-speed automatic gearbox and a Polestar-tuned Haldex 4WD system. The vehicle has a top speed of 250 mph according to Polestar.
Extensive work to the S60 was done over thousands of test miles in Europe to see how the model would do in all types of conditions. From the twisty roads of Spain to the freezing cold of northern Sweden, Polestar is certain that they've produced a vehicle ready to handle anything.
"This is, in my eyes, a very good combination of the Volvo and Polestar core values: safety and performance," said Braid according to a company press release.
