A French prisoner used explosives and a gun to escape from prison over the weekend according to the Associated Press.

Redoine Faid's escape landed him on Interpol's most wanted list today, April 15, just two days after he took four guards hostage and used explosives hidden in a tissue package to break out of prison in Lille, France.

"He is remarkably intelligent, and he is using his intellect to serve his ambitions," said Faid's lawyer Jean-Louis Pelletier to French broadcaster BFMTV. "(Faid) cannot stand being imprisoned anymore."

After Faid took five hostages, four of which were guards, by gunpoint at the detention center, he used explosives to blowup five different doors. Police have not been able to confirm how he obtained a gun or the explosives.

Faid freed his hostages before escaping according to local police.

This is far from the first time that Faid has gone on the lam. The armed robber was arrested back in 1998 after being on the run for three years in Switzerland and Israel according to the Associated Press. He was let go after serving 10 years of his 31-year sentence after police believed he had turned his life around.

The burglar wrote about his supposed new outlook on life in a controversial autobiography detailing his life of crime.

"When I was on the run, I lived all the time with death, with fear of the police, fear of getting shot," Faid said to Europe 1 radio during a media tour.

Faid assured anyone who would listen that he was giving up his criminal ways, but he found his way back in prison after being found guilty on charges relating to an incident in east Paris that resulted in the death of a 26-year-old police officer according to CNN.

Interpol has already started looking for Faid and an arrest warrant has been issued to cover 26 different countries in Europe.
