The 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder was spotted testing near the Volkswagen Group's Nurburgring testing center. And we finally know what this convertible option is packing.
It was an inevitable fate that the Nürburgring-record holder Lamborghini Huracan Performante will have its own convertible sibling, just like the automaker's other performance vehicle models. Thus, spy shots of its prototype have recently emerged.
Exterior-wise, despite the heavy camouflage, the 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder looks to carry over the same exterior modifications as that of the coupe. It is pretty much as you would expect for a vehicle whose top has been chopped off. It has a lower bodywork from the front bumper similar to the coupe along with new front and rear fascias and a high-mounted set of exhaust tips. And also its rear wing seems to function the same as that in the coupe.
Up close, the 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder's wheels are shod in Pirelli P Zero Corsas. These are perhaps the same compound as the Huracan Performante's standard tires. But these will likely be exchanged for the mesh-style of the coupe.
As for its engine, the Performante Spyder will be sporting the same modified 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine found in the coupe. This has been tuned to the sound of 631 horses and 442 lb-ft of torque.
It could be to a standard 7-speed dual clutch transmission, optimized for increased performance. Also, the Haldex AWD sends the power to all 4 wheels with a mechanical self-locking rear differential.
All these allowed the Performante coupe to dash a 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and 0-200km/h in 8.9 seconds with a top speed of over 325 km/h. Overall, the setup allowed the Lamborghini Huracan Performante to claim the Nürburgring in a record time of 6:52.01, dethroning the once high and mighty Porsche 918 Spyder.
The 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder's roof only takes 17 seconds to go full up or down. Plus, this is fully functional at speed of up to 31 mph. It is expected to have a summer debut. So, stay tuned.
