A store that sold a gun to the Newton school shooter's mother has lost its federal firearms license according to a report by the Associated Press.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives revoked the license of Riverview Gun Sales in East Windsor in December for undisclosed reasons.
Authorites raided the store shortly after the December shootings, also for undisclosed official reasons.
Adam Lanza made headline news last year after killing 20 first-graders and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School. He also shot to death his mother, Nancy, at their home with a gun she purchased.
Authorities have been able to confirm he fired approximately 154 shots with a Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle inside the school before killing himself with a Glock handgun according to the Associated Press.
His mother, Nancy Lanza, bought the Bushmaster from Riverview Gun Sales according to a witness close to the investigation of the school shooting who spoke anonymously. Whether or not the Bushmaster purchased at the store was used during the shootings could not be officially confirmed as of press time but it is strongly believed to be the same weapon.
Store owner David LaGuercia said shortly after the shootings that Nancy had in fact purchased a gun from him years ago, but he was not positive what kind of gun it was. He's cooperated with law enforcement officials since the shootings according to the Associated Press.
"There is nothing more devastating than the loss of a child," LaGuercia said in a press statement in December. "We are absolutely appalled that the product that we sold several years ago would be used in this type of horrendous crime. Our hearts go out to the victims and the families."
David and his wife Shelley Clemens were stunned to find out they were losing their license as they have yet to be given a reason. The store has remained opened to customers who wish to purchase ammunition and other items as David LaGuercia appeals the decision.
Rearview Gun Sales is approximately 15 miles north of Hartford and 65 miles from Newtown according to the company's official website.
"They just came in the store after Sandy Hook, raided the store and took away the license," Clemens said according to the Associated Press.
