Porsche introduced its first plug-in hybrid and two new extended wheelbase variants with the second generation of the Panamera today before it's officially unveiling at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show later this month.

Only a few changes have been made to the front of the Panamera, but a new bumper and subtly reshaped headlights have been added to give the model a unique look. More changes were made near the rear of the model however, which features brand new rear lights, bumper and a completely redesigned tailgate that includes a wider window according to a company press release.

The new Panamera S E-Hybrid produces 416 horsepower and will be joined by Panamera 4S Executive and Panamera Turbo Executive models. The S models will be equipped with a new 3.0-liter V6 engine with twin turbochargers.

Porsche stated that the new Panamera models are "characterized by tighter lines, more pronounced contours and newly shaped body elements."

The Panamera S E-hybrid is able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, an improvement of a half second compared to the Panamera S Hybrid. The Panamera S E-Hybrid can reach up to 84 mph in all-electric operation according to Porsche.

The S E-hybrid's top track speed has been listed at 167 mph.

An electric boost function helps in instances where maximum acceleration is desired, when the electric motor works in tandem with the combustion engine during acceleration. Electric boost is also available when a kick-down switch in the throttle pedal is activated by the driver during acceleration.

Porsche also revealed today a new lithium-ion battery that can be charged in less than four hours, allowing the vehicle to travel approximately 22 miles on a single charge.

Base prices listed for new vehicles include:

   Panamera- $78,000

   Panamera 4- $82,800

   Panamera S- $93,200

   Panamera S E-Hybrid- $99,000

   Panamera Turbo- $141,300

Porsche will premiere the new model at Auto China in Shanghai, which begins April 21, and more details will be released at the event.
