The recall affects approximately 144 Encore models with heated steering wheels built on Dec. 9 through Dec. 2 according to a GM press release.

The Encore is the brand's newest compact crossover, built by GM in Korea and was formally introduced in January.

"The investigation by GM Korea found that a part shortage led to certain Buick Encore vehicles to be built with non-heated steering wheels and later retrofitted with the required heated steering wheels," said GM to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration according to the Detroit News. The safety recall is expected to begin by April 12. Owners with questions about the recall can call GM at 1-800-521-7300 for more details.

The company stated that the steering wheel fastener on the Encore may not have been properly installed during early production stages.

Approximately 59 customers who recently ordered a new Encore with heated steering wheels have been contacted by the company.

"There are no known injuries or crashes related to the issue," said GM spokesman Alan Adler according to Reuters.

The vehicles will be inspected at their local Buick dealership to see if their vehicle is okay to use or not.

No issues have been found in 85 unsold vehicles at select Buick dealerships according to Adler.
