Authorities evacuated a terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport for two hours and detained one person as a bomb squad responded to a call about a "suspicious" item found at a security checkpoint according to CNN.
The airport stated that the object was found at a Transportation Security Administration screen checkpoint at approximately 5:50 a.m. at the airport's North Terminal in Romulus.
The entire check-in lobby was closed and the airport terminal was evacuated by police officials according to Associated Press.
Passengers waiting in the terminal were moved "a safe distance away" according to airport spokesman Michael Conway.
The bomb squad left the terminal with the object after it had been through an X-ray machine. People waiting to board planes were allowed back into the building at approximately 8:20 a.m. according to CNN.
The larger terminal remained opened as police determined the suspicious device was not a threat to the entire airport, just the smaller terminal the device was found in.
Approximately 30 million passengers use the Detroit Metropolitan Airport every year, making it easily one of the busiest airports in the U.S. and worldwide according to the Associated Press.
Last August, a bomb threat forced police officials to clear out the San Antonio Airport, and the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Alaska was also evacuated back in Oct. 2012 over a bomb scare as well according to the Inquisitr.
