Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is an icon and it will remain to be that way for a long time. This is an extreme off-roader vehicle that is unmatched by its toughest competitors. Sure, competitors will try to outdo the Wrangler Rubicon and may succeed, but fact remains that the Jeep Wrangler has an appeal that others don't.
According to US Cars and World Report, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon can perform more off-road than just about any other SUVs ever released. Also, the Rubicon includes all modern tech included with other trims and a lot of extreme off-road equipment. This looks like a mean ride when parked or cruising gently around, however, it immediately transforms into a wild beast as it is exposed to the most rugged and toughest terrains.
The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon features performance suspension, rock rails to protect the door bottoms from impact damage, and an advanced four-wheel-drive system. It also has locking rear differentials and a 4:1 low-gear ratio which enables the Rubicon to crawl at low speeds. This is necessary to gain more torque and control over the vehicle.

Why would one want a Rubicon? Definitely for off-roading. This vehicle is built for that purpose. If one has no plans to take the vehicle to the wilderness, then owning it may be a little futile. But then again, there is also the purpose for buying it for the sake of owning one. To each his own as they say but better use it for what it is designed to do.
As added by Guide Auto Web, there is also 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon as it may soon be available, or even currently available. The Recon receives a flat black grille with gray inserts, flat black bumpers, red tow hooks, 17-inch alloy wheels with 32-inch BFGoodrich KM off-road tires, and much more.
Yes, to reiterate, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is an icon and this will not be changed. The "Jeep" has been leading the way in terms of ruggedness and intense off-roading capabilities over the years and it looks like it will be that way because of the Rubicon.
