A shooting on Sunday has the small town of Ashtabula, Ohio concerned after a father was killed by his son during Easter mass according to WTAM.com.
The County Coroner's Office stated that the homicide happened at the Church of God in Christ on Hiawatha Avenue. Investigators have indicated the attack took place at 1:15 p.m.
"People pushed me into a back office and said, 'Somebody's here with a gun,' " the Rev. David Howard Jr. said according to the News Herald. "The guy was outside hollering and acting crazy."
One suspect, Rashad Riddle, is currently in custody.
The victim, Richard Riddle, 52, died immediately according to Deacon Michael Wofford who spoke to the News Herald.
Approximately 75 to 100 people attended the service this past Sunday. No other injuries were reported as of press time. Parishioners reportedly hurried back inside the church and forced the shooter to the ground.
The News Herald reported that on a normal Easter Sunday more people would have been in attendance, which could have meant more injuries or deaths.
The son's motive has yet to be determined. Rashad, who is in his mid 40's, was a long time member of the church and "always seemed like a good guy" until the shooting.
"When we heard the initial gunshot, we had people out in the hall and some came in running saying 'Someone got shot outside the church'," church administrator Sean Adams said to Erie TV News.
