A young girl mauled by seven dogs has died in Georgia according to a Bryan County deputy sheriff. The police report claims the attack took place on Mar. 27 at 6:30 p.m.
The girl, whose name has yet to be released by the family, was attacked by seven pit-bull terriers owned by her family according to James Beatty, Bryan County deputy sheriff.
Police reportedly received an emergency call by the almost two-year-old girl's grandma, who was asleep during the attack. She only woke up when she heard the sound of the dogs according to Beatty.
Once she woke up, she looked outside her window and saw seven of the nine family owned dogs mauling her granddaughter.
The dogs were put down at the scene by Bryan County Animal Control. The two dogs not involved in the attack were not killed.
The little girl was quickly taken to a nearby hospital where she was soon pronounced dead according to Savannah Morning News.
"When we got here and spoke to EMS, they told us that when they got here, she was already cold. There was nothing they could do," Beatty said according to the Savannah Morning News.
How the girl, whose 2nd birthday would have been this June, got into the backyard with the animals is not known at this time.
There is a chance that her older brother might have taken her outside to play and forgot about her or thought she was in the front yard instead of with the dogs.
"All the dogs had access to the house, nine dogs in all, "Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith said according to the Savannah Morning News. "She habitually played with dogs, all of them. But they drug her all over the yard. Something turned them on her. We don't know what."
Police have yet to determine who will take the blame for the death, but the owners of the dogs most likely will pay for their negligence and for allowing the girl to interact with the dangerous animals at such a young age.
The tragedy occurred just days after a 14-year-old was killed by a pack of dogs in the U.K.
