The brand-news third-generation 2014 Toyota Highlander SUV made its official debut today, Mar. 27, at the 2013 New York International Auto Show.

The base engine for the new model will be a 2.7-liter four-cylinder with six-speed automatic according to Toyota. The 3.5-liter V-6 is equipped with a VVT-I six-speed automatic as well and a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with a high-torque electric drive motor-generator for additional power and fuel efficiency.
A hybrid version will also be sold once the model is released.
Features found in the new all-wheel-drive model include MacPherson strut front suspension, Dynamic Torque Control AWD and Toyota's Entune multimedia system. The media system is an eight-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth voice recognition that hooks up to 12 JBL speakers.
All Highlanders will feature a newly designed in-meter-cluster Multi-Information Display and a new roll-top center console box. Additional features available for interested customers include Automatic High Beam System, Auto Cruise Control, driver's seat memory, and heated second-row captain's seats.
Toyota discussed and showed off the vehicle's all-new exterior at the event as well with conveys both "refinement and strength" according to Bill Fay, Toyota Motor Sales group vice president and Toyota Division general manager.
With three-row seating up to eight people can fit in the Highlander and a lower roofline was constructed for improved aerodynamics. The exterior is three inches larger while the width is one-half inch larger according to Toyota.
"The new Highlander will provide a more dynamic driving experience, with new technologies that include Dynamic Torque Control All-Wheel Drive (AWD), enhancements in suspension performance, and optimized electric power steering," said Toyota in a company press release. "The spring rates and the shock absorbers have been optimally tuned to help enhance the vehicles handling characteristics."
Acoustic-type glass was used for the windshield to help "reduce noise entering the cabin" and even the moonroof is designed to help reduce wind noise, even if the moonroof is open.
The vehicle can tow approximately 5,000 lbs largely due to new 18-inch alloy wheels included with the new model.
