Prius Prime is the second generation of a plug-in Prius. The car sports a new name and builds on the excessively styled and impressively performing latest generation Prius Liftback. On top of that, the sales of the car have been doing so well, that the dealers are asking for more.
According to Road Show, 2017 Toyota Prius Prime comes with 8.8 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack and a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. The total output from the engine and the motor comes to 121 horsepower. The fuel economy is rated at 55 mpg city, 53 mpg highway and 54 mpg combined. The electric range of the car is estimated at around 25 miles and it operates up until 84 mph. Above 84 mph, the gasoline engine kicks in. The transition from electric to hybrid mode is smooth and the engine doesn’t make any noise.
On the inside of the car, Prius Prime comes with 11.6-inches portrait-format touchscreen that dominates the center dashboard. The screen takes over the climate control functions, and it is great for seeing maps on its large format. On the audio side of the car, it has a CD Player, Mp3 Player, premium sound system, satellite radio, and smart device integration.
On top of that, Prius Prime comes equipped with wide variety of technology and safety features. Some of those include an engine immobilizer, backup camera, variable speed intermittent wipers, automatic headlights, fog lamps, navigation system, heated steering wheel and more. There is also stability control, traction control, lane departure warning, blind spot monitor, lane keeping assist, cross-traffic alert, and more. As reported by CNN Money, the Prius Prime has a starting price of $27,000, and given all you get, it is well worth the price.
According to Hybrid Cars, the features offered by the Prius Prime for its price are quite a bargain. Its sales have been doing so well that the dealers are asking for more. In January and February, Toyota has sold over 2,728 units in the U.S. with demand on the rise.
In the research conducted by Inside EVs, the plug-in hybrids are sitting on dealer lots for an average of 16 days, which is way shorter than most of the vehicles dealers are selling. Prius Prime is currently in the third spot in U.S. plug-in vehicle sales behind the Chevrolet Volt and Tesla Model S.
