The new Toyota Avalon Hybrid was named "Best New Car" at the 2013 Atlanta International Auto Show this week by the Greater Atlanta Automotive Media Association.
The automotive journalist has handed out "best in show" awards for the past four years and the Avalon is one of the most impressive vehicles GAAMA President Davis Adams has ever seen.
"The Avalon is an impressive option in the green car category, with size, luxury and fuel efficiency that make it a standout in a segment otherwise crowded with smaller economy cars," Adams said according to a company press release.
The new Avalon Hybrid Synergy Drive uses a 2.5-liter engine, mated to an electronic CVT transmission that contains two electric motors that help produce 200hp of overall system output.
Adams spoke recently about the new features customers can expect from the Avalon like regenerative brakes, automatic headlamps, heated exterior mirrors, heated leather seats, and automatic climate control.
The vehicle also features new technologies like bluetooth wireless audio streaming and phone connectivity, cruise control, and a leather wrapped steering wheel according to Toyota.
Safety features include traction control systems, front and rear side-impact airbags, anti-lock disc brakes, and driver and passenger-side knee airbags. Blind spot monitoring, rain-sensing wipers and rear camera parking aids are also included in the new vehicle.
"The 2013 Avalon was built to be a world-class sedan, with new levels of excitement, dynamic capability and refinement," said Bryan Robinson , area sales manager for Southeast Toyota Distributors, who spoke to media at the show according to the company release. "Toyota wanted to make a big statement with this car, and awards like this and the sales numbers tells us that we've made the right combination of superior styling, exciting design and comfort, all in a very 'green' vehicle."
