Major League Baseball announced this week that Cesar Carrillo, a right-handed pitcher in the Detroit Tigers organization, has been suspended 100 games according to NBC News.
The Tigers decided to suspend Carrillo for "violating baseball's minor league drug prevention and treatment program," which was announced by the commissioner's office on Mar. 15.
The Tigers posted a press release on their website shortly after the announcement as well. The Tigers have yet to announce what product Carrillo used to earn the suspension.
Carrillo, who a member of the Erie club, Detroit's Double-A minor league team, suspension is effective at the start of the season.
The pitcher's name was included in a big story posted by the Miami New Times earlier this year, which claimed that records had been obtained from a Florida clinic that sold performance-enhancing drugs (PEDS).
Other names were found in the report as well like three-time MVP Alex Rodriguez, who has admitted to using steroids in the past but not since 2003, and 2012 All-Star Game MVP Melky Cabrera. The report is said to be that of clinic chief Anthony Bosch, and included a list of players names and the substances they received.
Some of the substances included human growth hormone and steroids according to Fox Sports. The Biogensis case is still under investigation, but the Miami New Times has already stated they won't be handing over their own records to the MLB.
"Sorry, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig," said the Miami New Times in their explanation. "We won't hand over records that detail the inner workings of Biogenesis, the controversial Coral Gables anti-aging clinic that allegedly supplied prohibited drugs to six professional baseball players, including Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez."
Under MLB rules, any player found to have used performance-enhancing substances, "is subject to suspension" according to MLB.com.
