Android O is highly talked about as it may soon be released following the latest Nougat update. More than anything else, its name is what everyone is waiting for. Several meanings for the letter "O" have surfaced, however, there is one that's outstanding and may actually be what it stands for.
According to PC Advisor UK, Android will most likely name Android O after something sweet which is what they have always been doing. Its other versions such are Cupcake, Donut, éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, and of the course the most recent Nougat. Since it is now letter "O's" turn to be used, names such as Oreo, Orange, Oatmeal emerged as top contenders as its meaning.
However, tweets from Hiroshi Lockheimer were posted to somehow stir things up and excite people. These tweets are intended to make people talking and guessing. It also provided some important clues as to what the "O" stands for as one name stands out in most of his tweets- Oreo. Now, he could just be playing or may actually be serious, nobody knows.
His tweet such as the one below shows a cake covered in Oreos. There was another tweet showing the word Oreo amidst jumbled letters apparently while he was at a restaurant in Barcelona. Suggestive and playful- to most it may just be pure entertaining.

This could actually be a direct suggestion of what the latest Android will be called or not, future developments will definitely reveal. Since the name game for Android O is interesting and fun to a certain degree, it is also important to note that there are still upcoming new features and fixes coming to Android Nougat. Late January 2017, Android Nougat 7.1.2 beta version was made available which mainly focused on refinements which include bug fixes and optimization.
After such has been mastered, Android O may well come in the picture as it is reported to come with two proposed features which are Copy Less and Gesture Triggers according to Droid Report. Copy Less will enable users to get suggestions for the text that is opened in other apps while typing which takes away the hassles of copying and pasting.
The Gesture Triggers, on the other hand, will open an app based on drawing command on the screen. These features will definitely will come to fruition as there are no official reports leading up to it.
More information on Android O may be provided during its annual I/O event which will be from May 17 to May 19, 2017. Few more months and maybe the next Android version's name will finally be revealed.
