Microsoft Surface Book with its Performance Base model redefines what it means to be a high-end Surface Book. With this model, the company is targeting users with a bit more money to spend on a high-powered computing device. Let’s take a more in-depth look at the new Microsoft Surface.
As reported by Thurrot, the Performance Base model isn’t a new version of the product. It represents the three new models of the original late 2015 Surface Book lineup. On the outside, the Performance Base still retains the design of the original model, but with a few subtle differences. It is a slightly larger 13.5-inch laptop with a removable screen, weighing in at 3.8 pounds.
The Surface Book Performance Base is a true laptop with a hardware base that contains the keyboard and touchpad, various ports, a battery, and a dedicated graphic processing unit. The detachable screen is bigger than many other screens of 2-in-1 laptops, but it is also lighter and thinner. Once detached, the screen presents a usable tablet with pen support that can be used for content creation tasks. The display is running at 3000 x 2000 pixels, which is perfect for this design. Powering the display is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M GPU with 2 GB of RAM. The other components of the Performance Base model are the 6th generation dual-core Intel Core i7-6600U Skylake Processor, and few choices in terms of RAM and storage configurations.
On the outside, the Surface Book Performance Base has one of the best keyboards out of any other laptops. The glass touchpad remains unchanged from previous models and it too is best in class. Like any other Surface Book, Performance Base also includes a Surface Pen that has over 1,000 levels of pressure sensitivity.
According to Express UK, the new Microsoft Surface Performance Base comes with a hefty price tag. Starting at $2,999, the Performance Base is packing top of the notch components and a discrete GPU. But for that price, the customer receives a well-made and nicely designed premium laptop with truly useful features and incredible battery life.
On the other hand, Yahoo takes a look at what Microsoft can improve for the next and upcoming Surface Book 2. Even though the Performance Base model packs an incredible battery life, Microsoft should look forward to increasing the battery life performance of its upcoming Surface Book 2. Another thing is the design. The upcoming Surface Book 2 must have a solid, sleek, and attractive design. It would have to retain the look of a normal laptop, without any noticeable gaps. And last but not least, Microsoft should give the Surface Book 2, even more powerful than the Performance Base. The Surface Book 2 is rumored to release sometime during the first half of the year.
