BMW has kept its silence about the rumored M8 project. However, there are sources claiming that the first model, the M8 Coupe, is already slated for a 2019 release. The M8 Gran Coupe and the M8 Convertible are expected to follow suit the next year.
The BMW M8 is one of those cars that are shrouded in mystery and myth. The car have been rumored for several years already, but it has not seen the light of day. Rumors claim that the car is based on the BMW 8 Series and it packs a V12 engine, a six-speed manual gearbox and an impressive design that will surely appeal to both new and hardcore BMW fans.
According to BMW Blog, the upcoming BMW M8 Coupe has a reworked version of the company's 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. The engine is expected to pack around 600 horsepower. Taming that wild power is an eight-speed ZT-sourced automatic gearbox. This combination should be powerful enough to tame the massive 516lb-ft worth of torque.
An all-wheel drive is expected to be an option as rumors suggest that the base model of the BMW M8 will pack a two-wheel rear-drive configuration. The first prototypes of the M8 are expected to be seen on test drives within this year.
