British automaker Mini has made an impression on the floor of the 83rd Geneva International Motor Show by showing new trims, powerful editions and fun new technology for its iconic and famously customizable cars.
Three new trims from Mini were unveiled at Geneva, including the world premiere of the Mini Clubman Bond Street style, which pays homage to the classy street in London with a unique black and champagne color scheme. The two-tone trim features a golden roof and mirror caps against midnight black body paint. The car's interior dash is wrapped in black leather and the seats are black leather with gold piping.
The Mini Clubman Bond Street is joined onstage by the Mini Hyde Park and the Highgate Convertible, which made the rounds last year.
The Hyde Park option, which is available on Mini and Mini Clubman models, is similar to the Bond Street model with its use of contrasting colors, taking what Mini calls "Pepper White" exterior paint and pairing it with the same golden champagne paint used for the Bond Street model. The Highgate Convertible is a soft-top model that looks much like the traditional Mini Cooper hardtops, with the added bonus of going roofless when the mood strikes.
Mini also displayed its John Cooper Works Paceman vehicle, which features elegant and sporty lines and a coupe-style roof that swings down angle at the rear of the car. The JCW Paceman has a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and can speed to 62 mph in just 6.5 seconds thanks to the 208 horsepower under the hood, making one of the fastest little cars in Mini's fleet.
Also recently announced is a fun bit of dashboard technology, the Driving Excitement Analyzer from Mini Connected, which will evaluate the driver's skills and award points based on how efficiently and safely the Mini is driven.
The program awards the driver points and video-game style accolades for good driving. To get maximum "Experience Points" while upshifting you have to do it in 1.2 seconds or less, which will award the driver with a "Perfect Change Up" message in the in-dash display. Effective breaking will show a "Well-balanced Breaking" message.
Drivers get no points for reckless driving like violent breaking, tight or risky turns or prolonged acceleration.
