Hit TV show Westworld has been one of the most-loved shows in 2016. Although Westworld season 2 release date has yet to be announced, it will most likely air later this year, or in 2018.
Nonetheless, Westworld season 2 has already been given the green light, and fans will have something to look in. HBO Programming President Casey Bloys made this official by releasing a statement confirming the show's renewal.
In an interview with Variety, Boys talked about HBO's hit sci-fi show. He said, "It's fantastic to have a broad-based cultural and ratings hit to build from. That's a great, great luxury."
As for the release date, HBO is obviously keen on keeping Westworld as a fall series. Den Of Geek recently speculated the series' return to be in October 2017.
However, recent reports suggest otherwise. Bloys recently revealed to EW that he doesn't expect Westworld Season 2 to air until sometime in 2018. He said, "My suspicion is sometime in 2018 because of how big the world is and what goes into shooting it,"
"So I don't have a date exactly - they're going to have to map it out and write the scripts - but my guess is sometime in '18." He continued. If this is the case, it is highly likely that Westworld will air on the first Sunday of October 2018, just like season 1 did.
This might seem like a long wait for some, but reports suggest that HBO is giving way to its other genre hit, Game of Thrones. Thrones will be concluding its run in 2018 during its eighth and final season.
As for Westworld season 2 spoilers, showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy revealed some juicy details to Entertainment Weekly. Nolan and Joy gave fans a few hints on what they can expect from the show's second season.
The showrunners even went as far as revealing how hosts work during the second season of the show. Yes, including how they are powered:
"Their construction and their power source is something we're really going to get into during season 2," Nolan said. "So we'd like to keep that mysterious. They're closer to biological than they are mechanical, but they don't suffer brain death the same way we do. They're largely indistinguishable from human beings, but their brains don't require oxygen-which opens up interesting possibilities. Their brains are not as fragile as ours. On one hand, their cognition is controllable and malleable, but on a structural level, they can't be killed in the same way you and I can. There are advantages and disadvantages to being a host. [In] season 2, we'll be exploring more of the nuts and bolts of what they are-as the hosts themselves are trying to understand."
