The 2014 model also benefits from a new body, engine, and chassis, which helped the vehicle achieve an impressive lap time of 7:30 minutes at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. The vehicle can go from 0 to 60 in 3.3 seconds flat, and achieves a top track speed of 195 mph.
The new powertrain consists of a 3.8-liter boxer engine featuring a 9,000 rpm redline and a custom developed Porsche dual-clutch transmission which controls the back wheels according to Porsche. The six-cylinder engine was modeled off of the 911 Carrera S vehicle, but that's basically the only similarities between the two.
The company is hoping to attract new customers to Porsche with the dual-clutch transmission, which was specially developed for the GT3. The characteristics behind the new clutch were based on a gearbox used for race cars. Customers can also expect faster shifting, shift paddles, and closer spacing as well.
For the first time in company history, Porsche equipped their newest vehicle with active rear wheel steering to "achieve even higher steering precision and improved lateral dynamics" according to the company release.
The new 911 GT3 will be on sale in the U.S. by late 2013 according to Porsche. The company said to expect the base price to start at approximately $130,400 without the destination fee.
