After the GT86 appeared at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Toyota has released further details of its new 2017 Toyota GT86 facelift. The sports car gets an engine and suspension tweaks, plus a mildly upgraded cabin.
Major exterior changes on the car include a bigger front grille, which gives the car a sportier look, a new bumper, revised fog light housings, LED lights and alloy wheels that come with an updated design. A redesigned rear spoiler and front splitter serve to improve aerodynamics and some new 17-inch alloy wheels.
On the inside, there's a new leather and Alcantara upholstery including the doors and instrument panel. The cloth seats have been improved with contrasting silver stitching. Also, a new steering wheel design featuring audio controls and a central "86" logo. There's a brand new 4.2-inch display screen next to the dials as well.
The 2017 Toyota GT86 is powered by a 2.0-liter flat-four petrol engine that produces 197bhp and is unchanged from the 2016 model. The changes made under the skin are to the suspension, a few tweaks to its steering and shocks helps the car to improve its agility. The chassis has been strengthened to have a much better rigidity.
"The biggest point I wanted to improve was the car's responsiveness - on and off acceleration, turning in and turning out, and the speed and naturalness of its reactions. This has partly come from modifying the dampers and springs, but the biggest point of influence has been in aerodynamics and the way this affects the suspension," chief designer, Tetsuya Tada said.
Standard kit of the new GT86 will include LED headlights, heated mirrors, hill start assist, aluminum pedals, Bluetooth, DAB radio and keyless go. The Pro Trim adds heated seats, a leather and Alcantara interior and a boot spoiler. Sat-nav is now available as an option for customers. The 2017 Toyota GT86 has a starting price of £25,945, with the higher-spec model costing £27,095.
