On Tuesday, March 7, the 2018 Volvo XC60 was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The XC60 was touted as a "lovely premium crossover contender."
According to Autoblog, the XC60 shares a "familial link" to the larger XC90, also by Volvo. Both vehicles share Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture, but the XC60 sports a "lower, more sinuous overall look."
Volvo's XC60 will go up against formidable foes such as the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Jaguar F-Pace, Mercedes GLC, and Porsche Macan. But the XC60 is a strong contender thanks to its "premium good looks" that can stand up to its rivals.
Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President, Design at Volvo Car Group, talked about the purpose of the vehicle's design. "The XC60 is an SUV not designed to look down on others but to drive," he said.
The XC60's powertrain options are similar to those on the XC90, which includes a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder, a turbo- and supercharged 2.0-liter T6, and a plug-in-hybrid T8 on top of the XC60 range. The XC60's 400 horsepower is enough to allow the all-wheel-drive crossover to 62 miles per hour in less than 5.3 seconds.

The ability to go 62 miles per hour in under 5.3 seconds is remarkable, but Volvo is about more than just peak performance. The company still prioritizes safety, but Volvo is also just as popular for "its sumptuously Scandinavian interior design." The XC60 sports the brand's signature vertically oriented Sensus infotainment system which is located front and center, and the HVAC vents also sport a similar elongated look. A crystal shifter is positioned between the two front seats and it is surrounded by "lovely open-pore wood trim."
When it comes to safety, the XC60 boasts Volvo's City Safety system which now has a new Steer Assist function and Oncoming Lane Mitigation. Volvo's semi-autonomous system, Pilot Assist can manage steering, acceleration and braking duties "on well-marked roads" at speeds that can go up to 80 miles per hour.
The XC60's design, which is similar to the XC90's, confirms the rumors released by Car Advice. Volvo's XC60 sports rounder headlights with the same "Thor's Hammer" light signature that was first spotted on the XC90.
The XC60's rear showcases a raked forward tailgate along with tall tail-light units akin to the first-generation model, the XC90. Other safety features of the XC60 include an updated collision avoidance system, which can maneuver the car away from "lane merging collisions, on-coming vehicles, and other potential types of accidents."
