Ford is reportedly being sued over misleading mileage claims for two of their hybrids according to The Detroit Free Press.
Robbins, Geller, Rudman and Dowd of San Diego and McCuneWright from Redlands C.A. are filing lawsuits against Ford claiming that the company's expected 47 mpg for the 2013 Fusion and C-Max hybrids are "false and misleading" according to Jack Boren, head of business operations for McCuneWright.
Ford has yet to respond to the allegations publicly, but Ford spokeswoman Kristina Adamski stated they firmly stand by the vehicles they've released to the public.
"Range of fuel economy figures, including some reports above 47 m.p.g., reinforcing the fact that driving styles, driving conditions and other factors can cause mileage to vary," said Adamski according to The Detroit Free Press.
The lawsuits represent over 100 customers who have claimed they've yet to come even close to the company's advertised fuel efficiency.
The people aren't seeking significant damages, but they are more than disappointed at the amount of money they've had to spend for gas. They're also reportedly worried over the fact that the resale value of the vehicle will drop as well.
McCuneWright has previously won battles against Hyundai and Kia, who admitted to purposefully overstating estimated fuel economy for an estimated 900,000 vehicles sold in the last three years alone. They're paying for it now however, as it's cost them millions in compensation according to The Detroit Free Press.
The main difference between the lawsuits is that only 40,000 Ford Fusions and C-Max vehicles have been sold as of press time.
Raj Nair, head of product development at Ford, stated that he was working with the EPA to determine whether changes are needed on certification industry-wide. He did defend his company however, stating that hybrids are more sensitive than other vehicles and fuel economy depends on the driver and driving conditions.
