Since both smart watches are recently released, will both be able to measure up to the success of Apple Watch or even beat it? The Garmin Fenix 5, with all of its insanely advanced features like additional heart rate monitor, three-axis compass, gyroscope, and barometric altimeter, doesn't come cheap. The Fenix 5's main feature are its advanced GPS and sports tracking mechanisms. If a user is not highly invested in both, then this smart watch may not be advisable. However, it is important to note that Fenix 5's battery life can last up to two weeks on a certain mode.
Moving on to Samsung Gear S3 as it is considered the smart watch of the new generation. According to Wareable, it offers two designs such as the Frontier for the outdoor types and Classic sporting a more luxurious look. It has built-in features such as GPS for sports tracking and sending out SOS alerts.
A little hiccup with Samsung Gear S3 is its size. Compared with Garmin Fenix 5, the Gear S3 is considerably bigger which may not be advisable to be worn by those with thinner wrists. It has 46mm as frame measurement making it more of a manly watch. However, since big watches are considered in for women, this may make a good fashion statement watch as well.
Samsung Gear S3, like the Fenix 5, comes equipped with tracking features to monitor breakdown of steps, elevation, and calorie burn. It will also vibrate to remind the user to get up and move for being idle for quite some time. Everything is powered by the steadily improving S Health.
The verdict? Tough as it may seem, a winner has to be named. For the battle between Samsung Gear S3 and Garmin Fenix 5, the Fenix 5 wins by a close margin. Not worrying too much about constant charging is an important factor. Samsung Gear S3 is known to last up to four days while Fenix 5 has up to two weeks of battery life.
