German automaker Audi broke it's own records Friday when it reported February sales of 10,877 vehicles, making it the strongest start to a U.S. sales year in the brand's history.

Sales for the month rose 27.5 percent from the previous year, with January-February year-to-date sales up 17.2 percent to a record 20,993 vehicles, according to a report from Marketwire.

February marks the 26th consecutive month of record sales for Audi.

The Audi Q7 saw the greatest increase in sales, increasing 147 percent compared to February of last year, indicating a significant boost in demand for luxury SUVs.

The Q5 crossover saw significant gains as well, with sales 57 percent higher than February of 2012. The Q5 now ranks as the best-selling model in the Audi lineup, Marketwire reported.

Sales of the A6 and A8 models also saw greater than 20 percent year-over-year sales increases.

"The consistent growth of Audi sales reflects an underlying strength in business fundamentals," said Mark Del Rosso, Chief Operating Officer, Audi of America, according to the Marketwire report. "Our dealers are more motivated than ever, our product attributes have captured the attention of premium car buyers and our brand image has never been stronger."

Major auto makers have been reporting their February sales Friday. The first to do so was Chrysler, who reported a four percent gain in year-over-year sales.

Audi was one of only two automakers to earn a spot in the top ten brands in the recent Consumer Report's 2013 Annual Report Card. The top ten spots were dominated by Japanese brands. Audi's only non-Japanese competition came from Mercedes-Benz.
