Samsung has just filed a trademark application on a Samsung foldable smartphone called the Samsung Galaxy X. While Samsung currently has its hands full with the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2017, the company seems to be moving forward with some big plans for developing new smartphones.
Tech News reports that the Samsung foldable smartphone is trademarked in South Korea, but rumors about it have been going around for years already. Now that a trademark has been filed, it looks like it will just be a matter of time before all this becomes reality.
Earlier, Samsung caused some controversy when it acquired production rights over a bendable LCD display, which it later on integrated into its Galaxy Edge series. Now, the company is about to take things to a higher plane, although the trademark does not reveal much about the Galaxy X smartphone.
The new trademark was spotted by Twitter user IceUniverse who posted the screenshot of the document bearing the name. It also included a Samsung Galaxy X branding promo. However, all this could be just pure speculation at that time. This, however, does not debunk the possibility of a Samsung foldable smartphone being released very soon.

There have been earlier reports that Samsung will introduce foldable displays and smartphones to a select audience at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2017. The Korean tech giant was said to showcase the some Samsung foldable smartphones to a select audience with the aim of getting some feedback. This limited audience preview would be Samsung's way of predicting demand when its foldable smartphone gets released later on.
Other reports say that the Samsung foldable smartphone would bend inward like books. There would also be products that would bend outward. When this technology gets released, rumors say that Samsung cold sells this technology to other companies through its arm, Samsung Display, for commercial use. One of the foldable handsets, a 5-inch clam-type smartphone, is expected to debut later this year.
