McLaren launched another teaser video of its upcoming next-generation Super Series. And certainly enough, the British firm was able to amp up the excitement by teasing the futuristic-looking foldable gauge cluster, providing more space and enhanced visibility.
Called "Folding Driver Display," which is very straightforward and not quite a catchy name to say the very least, it is an all-new driver interface of the next-generation McLaren Super Series incorporating a "revolutionary approach to information display." It starts with the Full Display Mode and, much like any typical instrument panel, shows comprehensive information such as speed, distance, and fuel levels.
And then, when the pilot has had enough of it, with a press of a button, it folds automatically and is out of the way. And when in race mode, expect it to fold automatically also. Called Slim Display Mode, again very straightforward, it folds down and inward into the dash, thus decluttering the pilot's field of view and increasing visibility.
When in Slim Display Mode, the only information "displayed" are basically tidbits, such as which gear transmission you are in and engine RPM. Basically, the Slim Display Mode is more than ideal when racing on the track or for those drivers who want less in front of them.
MotorTrend reports that the Folding Driver Display complements the new 8-inch central infotainment touchscreen of the next-generation McLaren Super Series. But the British automaker has not showcased the rest of the interior including the new touchscreen.
"The screen will run multiple applications simultaneously on a vertical touchscreen carousel providing control of audio, media, navigation and other convenience features, as well as having several quick-access keys," said McLaren in a recent statement.
What we know so far about the next-generation McLaren Super Series is that it packs a 4.0 twin-turbo V8 engine and weighs around 2828 lbs, without the fluids. The British firm claims a 10.3-second quarter mile dash and will stop from 124mph in only 4.6 seconds.
It will be built around a carbon fiber mono cage. And the new McLaren Super Series will boast double aerodynamic efficiency compared with its predecessor.
The British firm pointed out that the next-generation McLaren Super Series will usher in a new era of the second generation, the first being the 650S, 650S Spider, 675LT, and 675LT Spider. Reportedly called the 720S, this car is supposedly going to replace the first-generation 650S and the others will follow suit.
If the futuristic Folding Driver Display of the next-generation McLaren Super Series wet you appetite, then have some more when the next breed of supercars debuts at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show next week.
