Adolf Hitler and Frankenstein are running for election in the northeast Indian state of Meghalaya according to CBS News.
Among the 365 people running for state assembly are Frankenstein Momin, Billykid Sangma, Field Marshal Mawphniang and Romeo Rani. Some of the hopefuls like Kennedy Cornelius Khyriem and Jhim Carter feel there election success will depend on the American presidents they've been named after.
Then there is 54-year-old Adolf Lu Hitler, who is also vying for one of the 60 seats.
Hitler's father worked with the British army, but reportedly developed a fascination with their longtime archenemy enough to name his son after the former Nazi dictator.
"I am aware at one point of time Adolf Hitler was the most hated person on Earth for the genocide of the Jews. But my father added 'Lu' in between, naming me Adolf Lu Hitler, and that's why I am different," Hitler told The Associated Press.
Hitler has won three elections to the state assembly. He's stated to the Associated Press that his name has not prevented him from traveling the world, including visits to Germany and the U.S.
"I never had problems obtaining a visa but I was asked many times during immigration as to why I should have such a name," Hitler said to the Associated Press. "I told the immigration staff I possibly didn't have a role in my naming."
India had a small role in World War II and many Indians consider Hitler not an evil person but a "figure of fascination" according to CBS.
The former Fuhrer of Germany's controversial book "Mein Kampf" can be seen displayed in many Indian bookstores and an owner of a menswear shop even named his store "Hitler." Once the store got more publicity, the owner changed the name after Israel groups complained that it should be renamed to something less offensive.
