Oscar Pistorius, the "Blade Runner" Olympian who enthralled the world in the 2012 summer Olympic games and last week became entangled in a shocking murder trial was released on bail Friday.

The South African double amputee is accused of premeditated murder in the Feb. 14 shooting of his girlfriend, supermodel Reeva Steenkamp.

Citing lack of enough proof to keep Pistorius jailed, Magistrate Desmond Nair granted Pistorius bail eight days after the shooting took place, CNN reported.

Pistorius reportedly wept through much of the hearing Friday and remained quiet and reserved after the announcement the he would be released on bail.

The runner's uncle, Arnold Pistorius, said the family is relieved.

"As a family, we know Oscar's version of what happened that tragic night. And we know that that is the truth and that will prevail in the coming court cases," he said, according to CNN.

The 26-year-old runner is accused by prosecutors of killing his 29-year-old girlfriend after a heated argument in the early hours of Valentine's Day.

The Pistorius defense claims the runner thought an intruder was hiding in a bathroom of his home and fired shots into the room, not realizing that Steenkamp was inside.

The court ruled that the prosecution has failed to prove that Pistorius was a flight risk or that he had a propensity towards violence.
Pistorius reportedly left jail in a Land Rover chased by paparazzi on motorcycles. Friday afternoon he posted a cash bond of 100,000 South African Rand (about $11,200). Another 900,000 Rand ($100,800) is due by March 1, CNN reported.

Conditions of his bail state Pistorius may not return to the home where the shooting took place, that he relinquish his passport and go nowhere near an airport, that he may not drink alcohol and that he report to police every Monday and Friday, CNN reported.
