The Microsoft Surface Book is considered the ultimate MacBook Pro alternative. It is top of the line device which may give other laptops, including MacBook Pro run for its money. It boasts of features that can match any other device of its kind in the market today.
According to PC World, Microsoft Surface Book comes with a Core i7-6600U, a GeForce GTX 965M, 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD. Given these, it is considered one powerful laptop. MacBook Pro 15-inc, on the other hand, comes with a quad-core i7-6360HQ, 16GB of LPDDR/2133, and 256GB SSD.
The prices for both laptops fall almost in the same range. The Surface Book retails from $2,400 to $3,300 while the MacBook Pro sets one back $2,400. If price is the issue, then both devices are expensive so it is better off to settle for much cheaper options as there are also good ones available.
As added by Laptop Mag, no matter what size of MacBook Pro, it will not be as high resolution as compared to Microsoft Surface Book. All Surface Books feature a 3000 x 2000-pixel panel while Apple's MacBook Pro comes with 2560 x 1600 display. The bigger 15-inch MacBook Pro is at 2880 x 1800, considerably better but still falls short compared to the Surface Book.
MacBook Pro also don't come with touch screen as compared to Microsoft Surface Book. In this aspect, it may or may not work in favor of the MacBook Pro. Its closest attempt to using touch as a tool is its touch bar above the keyboard. While some prefer touch screens, others are completely irked by it and prefer the normal touch-free screen.

In terms of battery life, experts say that the Surface Book stays longer than MacBook Pro. Microsoft claims that their device stays for 12 to 16 hours as advertised. Indeed, it did. After battery of tests, the Surface Book lasted for 12 hours and 29 minutes. On the other hand, MacBook Pro lasts for 10 hours according to Apple. It has yet to undergo rigorous tests to see if it can live up to the promise.
At the end of the day, both Microsoft Surface Book and MacBook Pro are excellent devices. It all boils down to consumers' choice. The choice of OS may be one of the factors. For Windows users who desire to have the best of the best, then the Surface Book is the one. However, for those who are well-versed with Apple's OS, then MacBook Pro is the best laptop for upgrade.
