The Oscars 2017 list of winners was as diverse as the movies that were honored this year. But the annual glamorous event held last February 26 ended with euphoria and major mixup for the cast and crew of two highly nominated movies.
The New York Times reported that in epic fashion, actors Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway who presented the best picture award mistakenly read the wrong winner "La La Land" instead of "Moonlight." The flub occurred because Mr. Beatty received the wrong envelope which was meant for the "Best Actress Award" won by La La Land's main actress Emma Stone.
Later, it was determined that the major mixup was attributed to a switching of envelopes containing the winners' names by Price Waterhouse Cooper's (PWC), the 83-year-old accountant of the Oscar Awards. In a blog post on Medium, PWC partners Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz explained in detail how the Oscar votes and winners are painstakingly kept a secret and known only to two people - Cullinan and Ruiz. How the switch occurred during the Show is still being investigated up to now.
Nevertheless, the show was unstoppable and contained a lot of interesting features for viewers this year. Some of the interesting points of the night, as reported by the Telegraph was "Moonlight's" Mahershala Ali winning the Best Supporting Actor for her role as a soft hearted drug dealer.
Also, the Best Foreign Film was awarded to Iranian film "The Salesman." Unfortunately, Asghar Farhadi, the director of the film did not join the ceremony as a way to show his support towards the Muslim men and women who were given travel bans in the U.S. The Iranian astronaut Anousheh Ansari received the award on Farhadi's behalf.
Meanwhile, the other winners of the Awards according to CNN are the following: Best Actor goes to Casey Affleck "Manchester by the Sea," Best Actress, Emma Stone "La La Land," Best Supporting Actress, Viola Davis for "Fences," Best Director, Damien Chazelle for "La La Land;" Best Cinematography "La La Land," Best Editing, "Hacksaw Ridge," Best Costume Design "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find," Best Sound Editing "Arrival," Best Documentary (Short Subject) "The White Helmets," Best Original Score "La La Land," Best Original Score "City of Stars" La La Land; Best Animated Feature Film "Zootopia" and Best in Visual Effects "The Jungle Book."
