Daytona SpeedWeeks 2013 Weekend Race Preview

After a couple days spent revving their engines at Speedweeks activities, racers will get the chance to put the pedal to the medal this weekend with the the Sprint Unlimited preseason race on Saturday and the qualifying race for the Daytona 500 on Sunday.

Saturday night's Sprint Cup series will feature speeds of up to 200 mph from race cars running Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota engines.

As the race is not for NASCAR points, race fans were given the opportunity to vote for the competitive elements of the race. After being put to vote, the NASCAR fans elected the combination for the 75-lap preseason race to be 30 laps, 25 laps, 20 laps.

Fans still can vote on other aspects of the race up til the drop of the flag Saturday, including they type of pit stop the drivers must make after their 30th lap (options include no pit stop, two tires changed or all tires changed) and may cast votes for the number of cars that will be eliminated after the second segment of 25 laps.

Voting can be done with the NASCAR Mobile '13 app or online at NASCAR.com/SprintUnlimited.

The race will also mark the debut of the Generation 6 NASCAR. The Gen-6 cars will have more individual style an identity than previous generation, which looked nearly indistinguishable, despite different makers and engines.

Nineteen drivers are entered in The Sprint Unlimited.

Forty-five drivers are listed on the preliminary entry list for the Daytona 500. The first qualifier for the big race will be Sunday. Sunday's race will determine the first two starting positions for the Daytona 500, which takes place Feb. 24. The remainder of the 43-car field will be decided the the Budweiser Duel twin-qualifying races on Feb. 21.
